Charles Matsinger Associates partnered with the Martin Dealership Group to renovate their existing Mazda dealership in Newark, Delaware. Part of Martin Dealership Group’s strategic goals was to renovate and update their dealership to align with Mazda’s latest design standards, including the addition of a new, two-story Jewel Box adjacent to their showroom to display their vehicles in a highly visible corner location.
CMA coordinated closely with the Mazda Design Team to create this renovated space that showcases vehicles and allows for the easy interchange of displayed vehicles. The exterior façade was completely renovated from the existing 80’s-style EIFS clad system to a modern metal panel finish. Full renovations of the interior and the installation of new mechanical systems were also managed by the CMA team.
CMA closely followed the Mazda Brand Standards to successfully manage these renovations in a challenging and unique layout, taking the modern vision of Mazda and adapting it to the dealership’s existing structure and shell.
All new interior finishes, lighting, and millwork were designed using Mazda Standards. The smaller, compact space added some challenges. However, CMA was able to adapt the various elements to meet the design goals within the existing space.
A reception area, boutique, and customer lounge were created as part of this renovation, with new finishes, art, and a coffee kiosk. The space was transitioned to a more relaxed, upscale feel for clients as they wait for their vehicles.
The consultation rooms and offices were renovated with floor to ceiling glass dividers, updated finishes, and furniture to improve customer comfort. This layout provides separated work spaces with the feel of an open space plan without cramped offices or a noisy work environment.
CMA coordinated with the contractor to install a lift system to easily switch out cars displayed in the Jewel Box, visible from both directions on Main Street. In addition, CMA worked with DEDC Engineering to retrofit the existing MEP systems and update the HVAC system as part of the renovation.
