Jefferson Health Magee Rehabilitation Hospital – Healing Garden

Charles Matsinger Associates completed construction on a new rooftop therapy space at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Center City, Philadelphia. The project was a renovation to an existing 15,000 square foot roof.

CMA created a space with designated programmatic areas that could be utilized by patients, family and staff. Interior renovations to the space included a dedicated art therapy space, a spirituality center, a resource center and art gallery lobbies.

The exterior spaces were designed as varying sized gardens, allowing patients to interact with nature in larger open areas or a more privatized meditation garden. The project also included renovations to revamp the existing Jerry Segal Street, an area where patients can relearn every day activities, such as utilizing a vehicle and interacting with city streetscapes.

The final piece to the project is a renovation to existing elevators, extending them an extra floor, so that the hospital has direct access to the new space from the lobby.
